ELIGIBILITY

Be a graduating high school senior from Bishop Mora Salesian High School in Los Angeles, CA

Have a minimum 3.0 overall, unweighted GPA

Intend to enroll in a science, technology, engineering, math or health-related field of study at an accredited 4-year university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.

During the senior year (Summer 2020 - Spring 2021), complete 20 volunteer hours of elder care at a senior living center or hospital OR provide support to persons with disability at a hospital, school, or disability center.  UPDATE: Due to COVID-10 restrictions, these hours may be completed by support at home.


APPLICATION PROCESS

As part of the online application process, applicants will need to submit the following documents to complete the application

Community Service Hours - A transcript or record/log from Salesian High School that certifies the number of volunteer hours supporting the elderly or persons with disability.  Applicants must complete a minimum of 20 volunteer hours, during their senior year (Summer 2020 - Spring 2021) working with the elderly at a senior living center or hospital, or working with persons with disability at a disability center, school, or hospital.  UPDATE: Due to COVID-10 restrictions, these hours may be completed by support at home.

Essay – In 500 – 600 words, please answer the following questions: As you reflect on your experience servicing the elderly and/or individuals with disabilities, 1) how has this experience impacted you, and 2) how has your experience at Salesian prepared you for attending college and for your eventual career?

Official Transcript - The transcript must indicate your overall UNWEIGHTED GPA

Resume - Please upload a one-page resume that highlights your activities, honors, awards, etc. from 9th grade to date

Faculty Letter of Recommendation - The letter must be on official letterhead and signed.  Please upload a letter of recommendation from someone who can best attest to your academic achievements and personal attributes. We recommend that the letter be from a teacher, however, you may also ask a coach, advisor, priest, mentor or school administrator. Letters from relatives are not proper letters of recommendation.

Photo - The photo must be professional in style and content. The photo must be of high quality – i.e. 300 dpi. In other words, no cell phone photos. The photo must be taken with a digital camera or scanned at a high resolution. An indicator of a high quality photo is a photo over 1 MB. The photo should be a head-shot. There is no need for a full-body photo. The photo should not be a selfie, party-shot, i.e. taken at a party. No party or scantily-clad photos. The photo should not be a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other social media photo. The photo should not be a glamour shot. The photo should not be Black and White or Sepia. Photos must be in full color.
